Arnold Helbling’s paintings investigate the architectures that shape contemporary life — from buildings and urban maps to biological structures and circuit boards. Based in New York since 1989, he has developed a distinctive process of applying acrylic paint to plastic sheets and transferring the dried layers onto canvas. This layered technique mirrors his interest in the interplay between material process and conceptual structure, producing vibrant compositions that are both precise and unpredictable. Helbling, who received his MFA from the School of Art and Design in Basel, Switzerland, continues in his recent exhibitions to push the dialogue between organic and technological forms to underscore the urgency of visualizing connectedness in today’s rapidly shifting cultural landscape.
